Michael Estes has been involved the BTI family of businesses for a number of years since growing up in his hometown of Bucklin, Kansas. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1971 with a degree in Business Administration and Management. After spending several years as a business instructor and track coach, he then worked his way up through the shop, parts and sales departments in the family John Deere dealership. In 1978 he moved to San Jose, California and worked in the field of Data Communications as a Regional Director for several high technology corporations. In California, he was very active in his local South Bay church and served as the Chairman of a large Bay Area non-profit organization. In 1992 he moved his family back to Bucklin and settled back into the BTI operation in sales and management. In December of 1996 the Estes family purchased the John Deere dealership in Greensburg, Ks. and Mike has been the store manager in that operation since that time. With his brothers, Kelly and Bud, and his sister, Letty, Mike labored to build one of the strongest John Deere dealer networks in the state of Kansas. When an EF-5 tornado destroyed 95% of the town of Greensburg in May of 2007, Mike, his wife Kristy, and the entire Estes family has devoted themselves to rebuilding their ravaged dealership and the Greensburg community. As a result of the tornado and the subsequent rebuilding efforts, BTI has secured the rights to market wind turbines for the Endurance product. BTI Wind Energy was created to represent this state of the art turbine to our customers. Mike and his family partners are actively pursuing this new venture and looking forward to the growth opportunities that exist in this emerging market.
With his brother, Kelly, Mike co-founded the local Business Redevelopment Committee for Greensburg following the tornado and continues to be active with the Kiowa County Public Square Committee. Mike has been actively involved in his local church as the Board Chairman and is an active member of the local Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. Mike and his wife Kristy currently reside in Bucklin, Kansas and have 4 children — Kimberly, Eric, Jared and Sarah. They are also proud grandparents of 2 great kids, Emily and Nathan of Pratt, Ks.
